Weight Loss and Weight Loss Pills

When you are in a process of weight loss, it is possible that the doctor or nutritionist indicates, in addition to healthy eating and physical activity, the intake of some medication or natural remedy to help speed up metabolism, burn stored fat, inhibit the absorption of fat in the intestine, reduce appetite, control anxiety or to combat fluid retention in the body.

Some natural remedies such as green tea, chitosan and goji berries are excellent for promoting weight loss. There are also pharmacy medications such as Saxenda and Orlistat, being important that the medication is indicated by a doctor, since the type of medication and dosage will depend on the individual needs of the person.

Some of the medications that can be used to lose weight and that are sold in pharmacies under medical prescription are:

1. Sibutramine

Sibutramine acts by decreasing hunger and making the feeling of satiety reach the brain faster, helping to control the amount of food eaten. Thus, this drug can be used as a first treatment in people with obesity. It should be noted that in some Latin American countries its use has been restricted due to its side effects.

This drug should not be used by pregnant women, breastfeeding women and in cases of heart disease, anorexia, bulimia, use of nasal decongestants and antidepressants. See side effects in: Sibutramine.

  • It is ideal for: people who are dieting and have obesity, but in turn have a lot of difficulty controlling hunger and cravings for fatty or sugary foods.
  • Indication: in general, the recommendation is to take 1 capsule in the morning on an empty stomach, but if after 4 weeks there is no evidence of weight loss, you should see a doctor again.
  • 2. Orlistat

Also known as Xenical, it acts by preventing the absorption of fats in the intestine, reducing the amount of calories absorbed at intestinal level, promoting weight loss and helping to control high cholesterol.

Orlistat is contraindicated in pregnant women, breastfeeding women and people with intestinal malabsorption problems or who for some reason are prone to diarrhea. See the summary of the drug’s package insert at: Orlistat.

  • It is ideal for: to decrease the amount of fat absorbed at the intestinal level and to maintain dietary results. It should not be used as the solution to ingest more high fat foods daily.
  • Indication: it is advisable to take 1 capsule before each meal to decrease the amount of fat absorbed at intestinal level. Saxenda
  • 3. Saxenda

Saxenda is an injectable drug and can only be used under medical prescription, but it acts at the level of the hunger and satiety center causing the appetite to decrease. Also, one of the effects of the drug is to change the sense of taste, making food a little less appetizing.

However, it should not be used by people who are not obese, during pregnancy, while breastfeeding, or in adolescents, because the effects of the drug have not yet been determined for this group of individuals. See the package insert for this drug at: Saxenda.

  • It is ideal for: individuals with obesity who have a BMI greater than 30 kg/m² or BMI greater than 27 kg/m2 but have associated diseases such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes. These individuals must also be accompanied by a physician and a nutritionist.
  • Indication: 1 injection of saxenda per day is generally sufficient to achieve a 10% weight reduction in 1 month.
  • 4. Lorcaserin hydrochloride

It is an anti-obesity drug that acts on brain serotonin levels, decreasing appetite and increasing satiety, and has few side effects. By decreasing appetite, less food is ingested, favoring weight loss.

  • It is ideal for: people who are dieting and need to decrease appetite to avoid consuming high-calorie foods and lose weight fast. However, it can only be used under medical prescription.
  • Indication: take 2 tablets per day, one at lunch and one at dinner.

    Home remedies for weight loss

Home remedies for weight loss are the easiest and safest options to be used to help in the diet, especially for those who suffer from overweight and obesity. Among the main ones are:

    1. Eggplant water

To prepare, you must cut 1 eggplant into cubes and let it soak in 1 liter of water overnight. In the morning everything should be beaten in a blender and consumed throughout the day, without adding sugar or sweetener.

    2. Ginger water

You should add 4 to 5 slices or 2 tablespoons of grated ginger in 1 liter of cold water, drinking the mixture throughout the day. For best results, the ginger should be changed daily.

    3. Herbal diuretic tea

To prepare this tea, add 10 g of artichoke, horsetail, black elderberry, bay leaf and anise in 1 liter of boiling water. Turn off the heat and keep the pot covered, letting it steep for 5 minutes. Drink the tea throughout the day and follow the treatment for 2 weeks.

It is important to remember that all these medications bring more results when used in conjunction with a healthy diet and regular physical activity.
