4 Home Remedies For Lowering Uric Acid

An excellent home remedy to control uric acid is to regularly drink beet juice with carrot, because it has water and substances that help lower the concentration of uric acid in the blood. 

Other natural options are nettle tea, applying an arnica ointment daily and applying a poultice of a plant called comfrey. These medicinal herbs possess properties that help recover the affected joint, relieving symptoms and discomfort. 

1. Beet juice with carrot

An excellent home remedy for uric acid is the combined juice of beet, carrot, cucumber and watercress. The ingredients in these juices possess properties that help eliminate excess uric acid from the body, and can be an excellent therapeutic adjunct for gout and arthritis. 

Ingredients

  • 80 g of beet;
  • 80 g of carrot;
  • 80 g of cucumber;
  • 20 g of watercress.
  • Method of preparation

    Blend all the ingredients. Drink this concentrate daily in the morning and on an empty stomach. 

    2. Nettle tea

    Another home remedy for uric acid is nettle tea, which has anti-inflammatory effect that stimulates circulation and decreases swelling in the region. 

    Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of dried nettle leaves;
  • 150 ml of boiling water.
  • How to prepare

    Place the water over the dried leaves and keep infusing for 20 minutes. Strain and drink several times a day. 

    3. Arnica ointment

    Arnica ointment is excellent for relieving joint pain or pain caused by a contusion, blow or bruises, because it has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

    Ingredients:

  • 5 g of beeswax;
  • 45 ml of olive oil;
  • 4 tablespoons of chopped arnica leaves and flowers. 
  • Preparation:

    Place the ingredients in a pot in a bain-marie, let simmer for a few minutes. Then remove from heat and keep the ingredients inside the pot for a few hours to macerate. Before it cools it should be strained, then store the liquid part in a container with a lid. Keep the container in a dry, dark and airy place. 

    4. Comfrey poultice

    The poultice prepared with comfrey helps in the recovery of sore joints and reduces local swelling, because this plant has an active ingredient called choline that prevents the formation of edema and promotes blood circulation of the injured tissue. Allantoin stimulates cell growth and tissue regeneration, while tannins provide an antimicrobial effect.

    Ingredients:

  • 2 to 4 tablespoons of powdered comfrey root;
  • Enough warm water to form a paste.
  • Preparation:

    Mix the powder with water thoroughly to form a paste, place on a clean cloth and apply directly to the area to be treated. Leave to act for 2 hours.  

    Caution: This preparation should not be used on open wounds because it can be toxic and cause skin irritation, liver problems and favors the development of cancer.

    To decrease uric acid, you should also maintain a diet that avoids foods that promote its production, such as red meat, liver, kidneys, sausages and seafood, as well as refined sugar and alcoholic beverages. In addition, foods such as beans, peas, lentils and soybeans should be eaten in moderation, no more than 1/2 cup of these legumes per day. See how diet can help in the video below:
