3 Home Remedies To Cure Conjunctivitis

An excellent home remedy to treat conjunctivitis and facilitate the cure is chamomile tea, as it possesses properties that help relieve redness, pain, itching and pain in the eye, thus helping in the treatment against this infection.  

However, home treatment can also be done with just a few compresses soaked in cold water or with carrot juice, as they possess similar properties to chamomile tea.

1. Chamomile compresses

This medicinal plant has strong anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that help relieve eye inflammation, redness and discharge. 

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon of chamomile leaves;
  • 250 ml of water.
  • How to prepare

    Place the water in a pot and when it starts to boil turn off the heat and add the tablespoon of chamomile, then let it stand until lukewarm. Then it should be strained and soak a clean gauze and pass it gently over the closed eye, up to 3 times a day. 

    This compress can also be made with the dried leaves of calendula, another plant that has excellent anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. 

    2. Cold water compresses

    This cold water remedy works for any type of conjunctivitis, as cold water helps to decrease swelling and lubricate the eyes, decreasing the symptoms of conjunctivitis.

    Ingredients

  • Gauze or cotton;
  • 250 ml of cold water.
  • How to prepare

    Wet a piece of cotton or clean gauze in cold water and apply it on the closed eye, leaving it on for a few minutes until you feel improvement of the symptoms. When it is no longer cold, it should be changed and another cold compress applied. 

    3. Compresses with carrot juice

    A good home remedy for conjunctivitis is the carrot compress, since the carrot acts as a natural anti-inflammatory, helping to control the symptoms of the disease. 

    Ingredients

  • 1 carrot;
  • Cotton or gauze.
  • How to prepare

    Grate the carrot or pass it through a pica everything to release the juice. Once you have the juice, wet the gauze or cotton and place the compress over the closed eye for 15 minutes. To improve the effect, it is recommended to renew the compress every 5 minutes. This can be done 2 times per day, always after cleansing the eyes with water or saline.
