As an aid to sleep, hot tea with milk may help people relax and be able to fall asleep more quickly.

In one study, 15 male participants experienced “more restful” sleep after consuming a cup of black tea containing L-theanine (a natural component in some teas) before bedtime compared with those who consumed a placebo beverage. A second study has reported that subjects fell asleep faster when taking a decaffeinated green tea extract before bedtime as compared with those who took a placebo capsule.
