How To Make Homemade Serum For Diarrhea And Vomiting

The homemade serum is a solution obtained by mixing water, salt and sugar, being used to prevent or combat dehydration caused by the occurrence of vomiting and / or diarrhea, and can be used in children, adults and even pets.

Although it can be used in infants, it should not be administered to those who are exclusively breastfed. The most appropriate in these cases is to administer only breast milk to keep the baby hydrated. In addition to preparing homemade whey, see what to eat when you have diarrhea.

There are two ways to prepare homemade whey, however, in both cases, care must be taken to strictly follow the amounts indicated, since an error in the preparation can cause complications, especially in children who are with dehydration:

    What is homemade whey for

Homemade whey is used to combat dehydration because it replenishes water and mineral salts lost through vomiting and diarrhea that are common in illnesses such as gastroenteritis and dengue fever. The homemade serum is indicated for all ages and can even be used in dogs and cats when necessary.

Diabetics should not take the homemade serum and seek medical help, as well as those who have severe dehydration. It is important to clarify that taking the saline solution will not stop vomiting and diarrhea, it will only be useful to replace lost fluids and mineral salts. This is why it is important to follow all medical indications to control diarrhea and vomiting.

    How to take it

The homemade saline solution should be taken on the same day of its preparation in small sips throughout the day. In case of vomiting and diarrhea the amount of fluids lost should be observed and the homemade whey should be taken in the same proportion after each episode of vomiting or diarrhea.

No more than half a glass of whey should be taken at one time and infants and children may take the whey in teaspoonfuls.

Although it is very easy to make the serum at home, there is also on sale in pharmacies some containers called Salts for oral hydration that contain salt and glucose in the exact dose to mix in 1 L of mineral water or they also sell ready to drink serums, this way it is easier to take and is the best alternative when in doubt about the quality of water to make the serum at home or when traveling with small children.

When should you go to the doctor?

When diarrhea and vomiting are sustained for more than 24 hours it is important to go to the doctor to identify the cause and adequate treatment, which in some cases may have to be done with antibiotics. It is not recommended to take medication without a doctor’s prescription because it can be harmful to health.

In addition to preparing the homemade serum, know what to do when the child has diarrhea and vomiting at the same time.
