Carrot, Lemon and Honey Syrup For Cough: Benefits and Recipe

An excellent way to treat the flu or cold and relieve cough with phlegm is to prepare and ingest a homemade carrot syrup with honey and lemon. Carrot has expectorant and antioxidant properties that help fight these respiratory conditions.

Honey is considered a natural antiseptic, expectorant and soothing, helping to expel phlegm, clearing the airways and soothing the irritation caused by coughing. Lemon acts as an antibacterial and antiseptic, allowing to soothe inflammation and sore throat.

Ingredients

  • 1 grated carrot;
  • 1/2 lemon;
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar;
  • 1 tablespoon of honey (include just in children older than 1 year)
  • How to prepare

    Grate the carrot or cut it into very thin slices, place it on a plate and sprinkle the sugar. To enhance the effect of the remedy, you should add 1/2 squeezed lemon and 1 tablespoon of honey over the whole carrot.

    Honey should not be ingested by children under 1 year of age, due to the risk of botulism. In this case, simply remove the honey from the recipe and the syrup will have the same effect.

    The dish should be placed in the open air and allowed to stand for a few minutes. When the carrot begins to release its own natural juice it is ready to be consumed. It is recommended to take 2 tablespoons of this syrup per day, but it should be taken with caution because it contains a large amount of sugar, being contraindicated for people who have diabetes.
