3 Recipes For Preparing Guaco Tea To Relieve Cough

Guaco tea is a natural plant with medicinal properties, whose leaves are used to treat respiratory problems and persistent cough thanks to its potent bronchodilator, antiasthmatic and expectorant action.

Its scientific name of guaco is Mikania glomerata, and this plant can be combined with honey that provides antiseptic and antibiotic properties or with other plants such as eucalyptus for example, which also has expectorant, antimicrobial, decongestant and anti-inflammatory properties.  

Some recipes that can be prepared with this medicinal plant are:

1. Guaco tea with honey

Ingredients

  • 2 to 4 g of guaco leaves;
  • 1 tablespoon of honey;
  • 250 ml of boiling water.
  • How to prepare

    Add the guaco leaves to the boiling water, cover and let stand for approximately 15 minutes. Strain and add the tablespoon of honey. Take hot 2 times a day.

    2. Guaco tea with eucalyptus

    Ingredients

  • 4 to 8 g of guaco leaves;
  • 1 tablespoon of dried eucalyptus leaves;
  • 500 mL of boiling water.
  • How to prepare

    Add the guaco and dried eucalyptus leaves, or failing that eucalyptus essential oil, to the boiling water. Cover and let steep for 15 minutes. Strain and drink 2 to 3 cups per day. This tea can also be sweetened with honey.

    3. Guaco tea with milk

    Ingredients

  • 20g of fresh guaco;
  • 250 ml of cow, rice, oat or almond milk;
  • 2 tablespoons of mascabado sugar.
  • How to prepare

    Bring all the ingredients to a simmer. Stir until the aroma of the guaco is well evident and the sugar is all diluted. The more caramelized the sugar is, the more it will help calm the cough. This means you should stir for about 5 to 10 minutes. Drink a warm cup before bedtime.
