What are some healthy benefits of green tea?
Green tea may have a number of health benefits , such as:
• Protecting against heart disease and cancer. Green tea reduces levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) and increases levels of good cholesterol (HDL). It also inhibits the growth of tumour cells in breasts, lungs, ovaries, stomach and intestines — the very organs most likely to be affected by cancer. Green tea is even effective at killing oral cancer cells. Because it boosts the activity of enzymes that help reduce damage from free radicals linked to aging and chronic diseases, drinking green tea may help protect against strokes or inflammatory diseases.

• Increasing energy. Caffeine, an ingredient found in many green teas helps improve mental alertness without causing nervousness associated with coffee. The antioxidant properties of these te are also thought to promote energy production in the body. In one study, this method of drinking tea resulted in a 37 percent boost in physical performance and led to a 22 percent improvement in endurance.
• Fewer colds and flu. Studies have found that green tea polyphenols trigger the synthesis of antiviral proteins and help modulate immune responses. Hence, if you’re like me — always struggling against viruses or respiratory illnesses — increasing your intake of green tea may be particularly effective at preventing these infections from taking root. • Warding off diabetes . Green tea helps control blood sugar by slowing the release of glucose into the bloodstream after meals. Study participants who consumed four cups per day had 11 percent less insulin secretion than those who drank water instead.
• Thwarting cancer. Epigallocatechin-3-gallate, a component in green tea that is abundant in the catechins, has been shown to shrink tumors and inhibit tumor growth by blocking the activity of certain genes involved in cell division and proliferation. (Higher concentrations of catechins can be found in Matcha Green Tea .)
• Treating high blood pressure . Research suggests that drinking four cups of green tea per day may reduce the risk of developing hypertension by up to 40 percent! Just be sure to use low or no-sodium broth when preparing your cup, as salt retains water weight and could make your blood pressure spike.
